Background
Michael Knight has a long track record of success in financial services, ranging from Nat West Bank and Norwich Union, to MGM Assurance and Lloyds TSB. Roles have included training, management, estate agency development and sales.

After a successful spell with the Town & Country Partnership in Luton and Harrison Murray Group in Northampton, Michael Knight Set up Barton Mortgage Services in March 2005. This was to address the needs of Polders Estate Agents in Earls Barton and latterly Move Smart in Wellingborough.

In January 2009, a strategic decision was made to change the trading style to Michael Knight Mortgages  and use the high level of customer awareness of the Knight Rider television series.  This has proved to be of great value and during the very tough trading conditions of 2009, business levels have been maintained and are now increasing month on month.

As a result of this, Michael Knight has recruited a mortgage adviser, Ross Robinson, to broaden the service offering available. Ross brings his in-depth knowledge of the Estate Agency market as he has worked as a branch manager for Harrison Murray and Bairstow Eves.

With the incredibly hard trading conditions of 2008 and 2009 hopefully starting to improve, what many businesses crave is stability and improved profitability. Having weathered the storm and proactively looking to grow, you can be assured that we at Michael Knight Mortgages understand the pressures being faced by businesses such as Estate Agents, Solicitors, Accountants and Bookkeepers and want to work with like-minded businesses.

We are an Appointed Representative of the Tenet Group which is financially secure and a market-leader in terms products and services on offer with some of the highest commission rates available.

Naturally, you want to make sure that when you refer a customer, they will have access to the widest range of products and services. We source mortgages from the Whole Of Market and do not operate a limited panel. Insurances are obtained from a wide range of providers and we are confident that every client has excellent value for money.

This means that more clients are likely to agree to work with Michael Knight Mortgages which in turn will lead to greater income for the Introducer.

How Do Make Our Relationship Work?
A common problem that can occur between Mortgage Brokers and their Introducer is a lack of communication; this can be from when the customer has been referred to what is happening with the application progress. 

To address this key area, we have developed online systems which enable ‘realtime’ feedback and updates which means the Introducer is always in control.It is also essential to define key service standards so that unrealistic expectations are avoided. To avoid misunderstandings, we take care to work out a detailed plan of what both sides want and need to be in place for a fruitful and profitable business relationship. This along with regular review meetings enables excellent communication and a positive relationship.

Training
With our backgrounds in training and development and hands-on estate agency experience, we can offer bespoke group and individual sessions to suit your staffs needs. Working out a training development plan has benefits for both the business and staff - research has shown that staff who feel they are valued and developed are more motivated and show a desire to stay longer for the business. Recruitment costs are reduced and individual profitability increased.

Frequently Asked Questions


How do you make sure you’re researching the Whole of the Mortgage Market?
We use a system called Trigold which is updated daily to ensure all the latest deals are included. We can access deals which are available direct to the client as well so we know we are offering the best of advice.

Do you tend to recommend mortgages from only a few of the lenders available?
As Whole of Market brokers we take our responsibilities very seriously and genuinely have no favourites. As well as initial rate, other factors are taken into account such as turn around times and other fees. Every clients circumstances will be fully taken into account before making a recommendation.

What about insurances, do you sell these too?
An integral part of arranging a mortgage is making sure that if things go wrong for a client, they are protected. The benefits of buying various insurances are fully explored which means we have a high take up rate from our clients. We also have a low cancellation rate as a result.

Do you have competition from direct insurers like Direct Line or Tesco?
We find they tend to ‘cherry pick’ customers and do not offer advice. We are qualified to offer advice
and recommendation and many clients feel this is of tremendous benefit.

Do you work in the commercial market as well?
We have set up a number of commercial mortgages in the past and are always looking to be active in this competitive market. We go direct to the major lenders and have built excellent relationships with them. We can access all types of commercial insurances via a link we have with a specialist broker.

Can you help older customers who need to release equity in their homes or to purchase?
Michael is qualified to work in this specialist market and only recommends products approved by SHIP. This means that clients have a no-negative equity guarantee and are assured they can remain in the property until they move into long-term care or pass away.

Many customers are worried about being made unemployed, can you arrange insurance to cover this?
As we have 18 general insurance providers, we also have access to the very best of covers and this includes stand alone unemployment insurance.

We have a lot of landlords and tenants, what insurances can you offer them?
We have specialist landlord buildings insurance which also covers a level of contents as well. We can also build in a rent guarantee which provides a great peace of mind for landlords. Tenants also should have contents insurance and this is often very cost-effective.

Introducer Prospectus

Profit Through Partnership
When receiving potential clients that have been identified as people who require mortgage advice by the Introducer, feedback is required as to the outcome of the discussion within 24 hours.
All live applicants must be diarised and chased on a regular basis.
Regular data to be provided to Introducer in respect of New Business Register and Leads Register.
Monthly meetings scheduled to  will be attended if required by Estate Agent. Attendance to planned forward in both Estate Agent and Michael Knight Mortgages diaries.
The generation of mortgage leads is not the sole responsibility of the agency. In order to be proactive, training will be provided by Michael Knight Mortgages to Estate Agency staff if the need has been identified and agreed with Estate Agency Manager or owner.
